What we've been up to
We've been a pretty busy family these last couple of weeks. We had a great time participating in the 5K Turkey Trot the weekend after Thanksgiving. Abigail won for her age group even though she rode in her stroller the whole time. The good news is that we didn't come in last place- that was our only goal, aside from finishing of course.
Making a gingerbread house has become one of our family traditions. Abby did a great job decorating her house this year! She is so proud of it.
The hospital where we will have the baby offers sibling preparation classes that we took advantage of. She got to practice changing diapers, swaddling a baby, learning about the umbilical cord (which she wants to help Daddy cut), and how to gently touch the baby. I think she is ready to be a big sister. She keeps asking if the baby is ever coming! Good thing we are down to the last month.
We also made our belly cast. Abby's job was to be the "smoother" and she did a great job. We did the same thing with Abby and I am so glad we did. I painted it and she still has it hanging in her room. For this one I was only a week further along than I was for Abby's. Her favorite color is green now, so I think we are going to paint it pink and green for her little sister. I'll definitely post some pictures of that process.
Snowy Wednesday
Yesterday we had our first official snowfall of the season. It was supposed to only be 1-2 inches, but in the end it was about 4. After school and work we went outside to play and had so much fun. Abby even went down the hill in the sled all by herself. The first time it was kind of on accident because she was getting situated and was turning her head to tell Quintin she wanted him to ride with her and then off she went. She liked it so much that she went down about 3 more times by herself. Such a big girl!

Getting ready
Saturday was Abigail's sibling preparation class. She had a great time. They talked about being gentle with the baby, learned to change diapers and swaddle, and even made a toy tester and a card for the baby. Then we took a tour of the birthing center so she could see where Adrianna is going to be born. When we told her we were going to take the tour, she thought that we were going to actually have the baby. She was really excited, but we had to remind her that it won't be until after Christmas. I am sure it seems like forever to her.
Today was picture day at school. Here is a shot of her before we left the house. I can't wait to see how the pictures turn out.

End of the year tennis party
I'm the Officer Rep for the women's tennis team at the Academy, and we had all 12 of the girls and coach over for dinner on Thursday. It was a lot of fun. We even had "tennis ball" cupcakes- yummy! Abigail wanted to make goody bags for all of them, since no party is complete without them, according to a three year old. They all really enjoyed getting a little break on a night they wouldn't normally be able to leave. We played the Wii- tennis of course! I actually beat coach, who was an All-American in her college days. Abby also had fun playing Wii Boxing. It was a great night!

Fun last weekend
The trees have been changing with the arrival of the cooler weather and we decided to go out and take some pictures before the opportunity passed. Afterwards we drove into DC to check out the wax museum. It was a lot of fun. We were able to touch and pose with all of the figures. Abigail said that Tiger Woods was her favorite!

Sneek Peek!

We had our 4-D ultrasound done tonight. It was so much fun. We had a 7pm appointment, which was a little late for us. They were also running behind, so we didn't get started until about 7:45, but it was well worth the wait. The baby was so cooperative. She is breech right now, but it is still early enough that we don't have to worry. She showed us her pretty little face the whole time. She smiled, yawned, opened her eyes, and even was trying to put the umbilical cord in her mouth. Abigail loved seeing her little sister, Adrianna (not sure if that is how we are going to spell it yet)! It is cute because she looks so much like Abby did when she was a baby. She is already getting chubby because we could see a double chin and some cute little cheeks. Here are some of the best pictures.

Picking a Costume
Abigail has had a difficult time deciding on a costume this year. Some of the top picks have been Spiderman, a clown, and almost all of the High School Musical characters. That was until we were at the costume store yesterday and she saw this:

It comes with all of the accessories, minus the weapon thank goodness!! We walked through about three times to make sure that this was the one and she stuck with it. No princesses for us- she is going to be a SWAT Team girl!!

We've been pretty busy....
I realized the other day that we have been so busy that we haven't updated our blog in way too long!! Everything has been going great. Abby started her dance class last Friday. We couldn't sit in, so the only pictures I have are from before. They are going to have an observation class in the future when parents can sit in. She really likes it- especially because she gets to wear her tap shoes! The other pictures are just from the last month or so- since I last updated. We found an indoor miniature golf place that was also "glow in the dark." They have a minor league baseball team pretty close by called the Bowie Baysox. It was really fun because after the game they let all the kids go down and run around the bases. Abby had a blast doing that!
She is also ready for her little sister to come. The other day she told me, "Mommy, we've been waiting a long time for the baby to come!" I think it helps now that she can feel the baby kicking and moving. We are going this Thursday for the 4D ultrasound. We did the same thing with Abby and it was a great experience, so we wanted to make sure we did it again. I now have to go to the doctor every 2 weeks. It feels like this pregnancy has flown by. I know at this time with Abby we had the whole nursery ready, and now we haven't even put the crib together. We are probably going to do that next week. The hardest part has been trying to figure out what stroller to get. I think we have decided on the Phil & Teds Sport Buggy. It seems like the best fit for us because Abby is older and we aren't sure how long she will want to ride in a stroller. If we get a regular double or side-by-side, then we are stuck with that for a while. With the Phil & Ted's we can put a little buggy board on the back that she can stand on if she doesn't want to ride inside. So many decisions!!

We're having another little girl!
We went in for our sonogram yesterday and found out that Abigail will have a little sister! The baby looked really healthy and is growing wonderfully. It was funny because pretty much the entire pregnancy so far Abigail has said she wanted a baby sister. So yesterday, when the doctor said that it was in fact a girl she said, "Oh man. I wanted a baby brother!" I couldn't believe it. On the way back to school I re-convinced her that a little sister is going to be great. She really wants some bunk beds, so the fact that it is another girl helped because I told her once the baby is big enough they could get bunk beds and she could sleep on the top. Not sure if she realizes that will be several years from now, but as long as she is excited again that is all that matters, right? We went and pulled out all of her baby clothes and are going to go through them tonight. Poor Quintin is going to be the only man in the house for a while, but at least he will have lots of girls around to love him!

Summer Fun
Quintin's sister came to visit us last weekend. We are so excited because she moved to Virginia from Oklahoma, and is now only about 3 1/2 hours away. The last time she saw Abby was before her 2nd birthday, so it had been a while. We had a great time! Tosha doesn't like to take a lot of pictures, but the ones we were able to snap of her were beautiful!

Visit from Wendy!

One of my friends that I went to college with in Colorado called me on Saturday and said she was in DC for a conference, so we drove out on Sunday to see her. She hadn't seen Quintin in about 9 years (has it really been that long since I was a freshman?) and the last time I saw her I went out to Boston to meet up with a few
girlfriends and I was about 6 months pregnant with Abigail. Abby was so excited to meet her and we all had a great time going to the museums and out to lunch.

Quiet Waters

There is a park by our house called Quiet Waters. It is really nice and has a great playground.
We found out recently that it also has a place where you can rent kayaks and pedal boats, so we went out on a kayak. They are a little harder to steer than we thought- plus we had one that was out of alignment and pulled to the left and kept us going in circles!!!

Flashback Friday
It has been pretty warm up here lately. When we think about it being hot, Quintin and I always remember this picture. We had just moved to Corpus Christi from San Diego (We were staying on base waiting for our furniture to arrive) and Abigail was 4 months old. This picture says exactly what we all were feeling. It was so hot we didn't even want to move and the humidity made our hair frizzy!!

Practicing being a big sister
One of our friends recently had a baby and brought him over to our house so Abby could see him. She thought he was the greatest thing. She really liked how soft he was. She held him and touched him for about ten minutes, and then went on about her business.

I also realized that I forgot to include our ultrasound picture when I posted that we were pregnant. This is Baby Pollard at 9 weeks!

Only 81% to go!
I found this really cool website and entered all the places that Quintin and I have been to, but it only counts as 9% of the countries of the world. Guess we have a lot of traveling to do!

One on the way!
As you might have noticed from the new ticker we added to the top of our blog, we are expecting our second child in early January! We are all very excited. Abigail loves to tell everyone that her Mommy has a baby in her belly. I have been a little nauseas this time around, which was a change because I had nothing at all with Abigail. Right now Abby wants a baby sister- "No me want a baby brother!" she says. We are trying to convince her to be happy to have a healthy baby, no matter the gender, but she isn't buying that one yet. Oh, and the funny part is that the baby's name is going to be "Baby sister" too! We'll have to work on that one...

Playing Catch-up: Our summer so far
I have been horrible about updating the blog lately, so here is my effort at catching up with what we have been doing so far this summer.
We took another trip to Sesame Place. We went a little after we moved here last year, but didn't know that a majority of the park was water play and we weren't prepared. This time we were. We went around the end of May and it was great because the weather wasn't too hot and it wasn;t that crowded yet, so we had a blast.
We also had the best time at Hershey Park. That is the best theme park for kids that we have ever been to- and the entire town smells like chocolate! Yummy!! We got there later in the afternoon on the first day and went to Chocolate World where we saw a really cool 3-D show, took a tour through a simulated chocolate factory, and Abby got to be a factory worker and make her own little box of kisses! She got a cute hat and an ID badge.
Late that night a storm came through and brought some cooler weather, so we weren't able to play at the new waterpark they built in Hershey the next day, but we spent all day just riding all of the dry rides.
Then, for the last day of our little vacation, we drove about 45 miles from Hershey Park to a place called Dutch Wonderland. It is an amusement part built especially for kids under 12. It wasn't as much fun as Hershey Park, but we had a great time there too.

Nap time with friends

Today, when Abby was supposed to be trying to fall asleep I heard some noise from her room and went to check on her. She was wrestling with her stuffed Dora and Diego dolls. She had Dora in a semi-headlock and Diego was squashed under her legs. Of course I reminded her that she was supposed to be trying to take a nap, not wrestling her animals and dolls in her room. Shortly after that she must have fallen asleep. Later I checked on her and found this. Apparently everyone else needed a nap too after all of that wrestling!

Crazy Week
Whew! Things have been crazy this week. Quintin has been at a conference in Ocean City all week, but thankfully he is on his way home right now. Work has been really hectic because it is the end of the semester and things are starting to ramp up for summer training. On of my collateral duties is supply officer, and that has been a full-time job lately. Grades were due today, so atleast I have that part out of the way. There is also tons of coordination for graduation/commissioning week around here. I think I will be very happy when May is over.
This week is Abby's first full week in pre-school. She transitioned out of the toddler classroom last week, and so far she loves it. It is so cute because she comes home singing all of these cute new songs, and yesterday she told me that one of her little friends is her "best friend." My little one is growing up (shedding a little tear).

Happy Birthday!!
Abby turned three today, and we had a great birthday weekend. Friday evening we went to Medieval Times for dinner. This was our second time going, and Abby had a great time. Our knight, the yellow one, threw a flower to her and she was so excited. We didn't do much on Saturday, just went and watched the Navy Women's Tennis team play their last match and enjoyed the great weather.
Sunday morning we had a big surprise for her. We went to breakfast and then headed out for our adventure. We decided to take Abby on a Pirate Adventure in Annapolis Harbor. It was a great time, and the weather was just perfect. This was their opening weekend for the season, and we picked a perfect time because it was a small crowd. They made it so much fun for the kids. We found a message in a bottle floating in the harbor, fought Pirate Pete with our water cannons, and sailed on to find the black "X" that marked the treasure hidden under the water.

Great Bedtime Story

Abby picks two books each night for me to read, and tonight she picked one of my favorites. "Love You Forever" is such a great book, but it makes me cry every time I read it. The first couple of times I read it I thought I might have been a little overly emotional....no....can't blame the hormones on this one! The story is just so sweet. If you haven't read it, I really recommend it.

Chilly Easter
We actually had some snow on Saturday, so our Easter weekend was really cold. Because of the weather, the Easter Bunny his our eggs inside the house. Abby was so cute, because after she found all of the eggs, we had to re-hide them about 6 more times because she wanted to find them again. The last time she said she was going to hide them for us to find, but when she was all done she decided to "find them" herself! She made us wait in her room while she hid the eggs, and when we came out we found about 10 eggs in the hallway! She hadn't quite mastered the art of hiding yet. We had such a fun morning. Then around 10:30 that morning she started running a fever. We were planning to go to an egg hunt they were having at the Academy at noon, but stayed home all day instead. Her fever broke over night, and she seemed to be feeling much better this morning so I took her to school. Today was pajama day, so that was a lot of fun. April is Month of the Military Child here, so each day they have a different theme. Her fever returned around noon, and I went to pick her up. Q is going to stay home with her tomorrow, since I teach all morning. Hopefully she feels better soon. I think the constant weather changes here have been keeping us all sick. Hopefully spring will arrive soon and stick around a little longer this time.

Long time, no blog!
The past couple of weeks have been pretty hectic here for us. A couple of weeks ago, Quintin came down with the flu. He was quarantined in the bedroom while we tried to keep it from spreading through the house. I was the only one who had gotten the flu shot this year, but I got sick anyway. It wasn't as bad as the flu, but of course I felt the worst on a day when I had classes to teach all morning. Luckily I was able to get home right after that, and after a couple of days I felt better. The good thing about it all was that Quintin was feeling better by the time I was sick, so it was then my turn to stay in the bedroom. Abby ended up only getting cold-like symptoms, and for that we were thankful. I think she had to stay home from school one day because she was running a fever, but she didn't have any other major symptoms.
Of course I had two papers due the week I came down with whatever it was. I am such a procrastinator, and I am not sure why. I try to start my papers early, but it is as if the words won't come to me unless I feel that pressure. I was able to finish my 6 page paper right before I got sick, and then I only had the 10-pager left. That paper was for the International Terrorism course I was taking, and it was the last thing I had to turn in. That was the third elective for the Masters program I am in, and I thought it was my final one, but it looks like I might have to take one more. They are trying to change the program, and make it so all three electives that you take must fall into one Area of Study, so that way, once you receive your degree, you can also get a special designator. As I understand it, that could play a part in where I serve my joint shore tour in the future. In my case, two of my electives fell under Counterinsurgency and Terrorism, and the last one was under something else, so this summer I will probably take one more course just to be safe. This May I will be about halfway done, and I should be able to graduate next May. I was looking forward to being done with my electives, but I guess one more in the summer won't be too bad. I won't be teaching, so I will have more time than I do now.
We've also been looking for a puppy. We really like Boston Terriers and also Boxers. Yesterday we went to look at a Boxer, and he was really cute. The only issue was that it looked like he might have had some hip problems. His hind legs were slipping out from under him a lot, and looked pretty weak. It was really sad for Quintin and I, because when we saw him do it for the first time we both looked at each other because it reminded us of the little Boston Terrier we had named Rocko. Quintin bought him for Abby in August of 2005, and after only having him in our lives for 6 weeks he had to be put down because one day he started having seizures. Q took him to the vet and he was seizing for over an hour, so we really had no choice. He was the best dog. He loved to sing when Abby played her little harmonica and he would fall asleep in Q's arms like a little baby. We want another dog, but it is really hard to take that step again after losing a puppy that was so young. We thought we had chosen a reliable breeder, and ended up having to go to small claims court over the issue. We will probably end up waiting a little longer. We did realize that even though Boxers are great family dogs, it might be a little big for us, so we will probably get another Boston. Abby likes to feed the fish at school, so I think we will start there. I know we are ready for the responsibility of having a lifelong pet, but not so sure we are ready for the "what if something happens to our puppy," especially since Abby is older now and would feel the heartbreak too. A fish is much easier to replace....possibly without her even noticing.
