We're moving to......

Norfolk, Virginia!

My Department Head slate came out and I am going to be the Combat Systems Officer on USS SAN ANTONIO (LPD 17). We are all really excited. Q's sister is in Virginia as well, so we will be able to be closer to her. This ship is really special because when I was on my first ship, my Captain was selected to be the Commanding Officer of SAN ANTONIO. This is the first ship in its class, and if you are the CO for a ship when it is going to be commissioned you get to design the crest and select the motto. My Captain asked me, because I was from Texas, what I thought the motto should be. I thought for a few days, did a little research, and then told him my idea. He liked it and decided to use it, so it is amazing that I am now going to be on that same ship. By the way, the motto is, "Never Retreat... Never Surrender"

We will be moving to Newport, RI for 6 months in January while I go to school, and then we will be heading down to Norfolk in July 2009. We wanted to try to get back out to San Diego, but this ship is a great opportunity. When it was on the list, I had to put it as my first choice. The next nine choices were in San Diego. Little did I know that I would get my top pick! Here is a picture of it. I can't wait to drive it!!

Happy Easter....a little late

We had a great Easter. Sorry the post is so late. The weather was beautiful so we decided to drive to D.C. to take a family picture. I think it turned out really well. Don't know how we were able to get one with Adrianna looking at the camera too, but it worked.
You can probably tell that I got my hair cut. I have wanted to go shorter for a while, but couldn't decide on the style until last week. I went and had it done on Friday and I love it. I have a ton of hair, and it is wavy, so this cut takes hardly any time at all to look cute. Quintin helped me pick out the cut....he is so stylish.

I've been tagged!

My friend Anna tagged me, so here it is...

What I was doing 10 years ago:
Let's see...I was in my freshman year of college at U. of Colorado in Boulder. Quintin and I had been married for 9 months and I think this was around the time of his "Gator Ball." I flew out to San Diego, my luggage was delayed, but made it in time for the ball! We had a great time!!

5 things on my to do list today:
1)I was supposed to go to legal to get my will drafted but they cancelled on me so I have to resked.
2)I already recorded the grades for one of my classes midterm exams.
3)Reserve a hotel room for a tennis tournament next month..waiting for the manager to call me back for the tournament rate
4) Go home early today and see Quintin and the girls since I have class tonight
5) I have to email a request for a bid for cutlery for this summer's YP cruises

Snacks I enjoy:
Really anything sweet. I love gummy bears and ice cream, although I can't have dairy right now because Adrianna doesn't do so well when I eat it. I love smoothies that Abby helps me make!

Things I would do if I were a billionaire:
First off I wouldn't tell anyone. Donate some to charity for cancer research in my Mom's name. I would set aside money for the girls and then we would probably travel a lot. Buy a house on each coast so we will always have a great place to live no matter where I get stationed. Buy Quintin the "big-baller" watch he has always wanted. Would probably start our non-profit org. that we have talked about....but can't say what because we don't want anyone to take our idea!

3 bad habits:
Procrastinate- especially when it comes to writing papers. I had one due last night that I finished just in time.
I usually don't make the bed either....probably 3 days out of the week
I forget someone's name right after they tell me

5 places I have lived:
Houston, TX; Boulder, CO; San Diego, CA; Newport, RI; Annapolis, MD

5 jobs I have had:
Sears paint specialist :) I could color match anything
Sales associate at the Rave in a mall in San Diego
In the Navy I have been:
Communications Officer on USS COMSTOCK
Assistant Operations Officer at MCMRON THREE
Seamanship and Navigation Instructor at the Naval Academy

5 people I want to know more about(a nice way of saying TAG!):
Lori, Grandma, Tosha, Iris, Carrie
So whenever you read this...YOU'RE IT!!! If you don't have a blog you can post it as a comment or email me!!

The latest and greatest

Last weekend we took the girls to the aquarium in Baltimore. It had been almost a year since we have been, and Abby really enjoyed herself. We got another membership since it pretty much pays for itself if you go twice. They had a special exhibit for the year of the frog, which they chose to highlight for leap year this year. Here are some pictures of some of our favorite frogs. Her favorite part is still running down all of the ramps at the shark exhibit. She hardly looks at the sharks, but it does help burn some of her energy. Adrianna liked looking at all of the fish and then passed out on the way home.

This past Friday was a big day for our family. We have always talked about having two children of our own, and maybe adopting later. We know that we have been blessed to have two healthy, happy, beautiful girls, and we decided that our family was now complete. Quintin went in for his "snip-snip" (vasectomy) and is doing well. It was an outpatient procedure that took about 45 minutes. He is a little sore, but was glad that he could get it done. He started feeling a little sick on the way home because we had to go to the Naval Hospital in Bethesda and we got stuck in traffic on the way home, so it took us about an hour to get back to Annapolis. He was sitting in the back seat, and I think that, with a combination of just having had surgery and the medicine was making him a little woozy. Once he got some fresh air he felt better. He has to take it easy for the next two weeks, but trying to get him to do that is hard because he never likes to slow down. This last picture is of Q and his girls before he went into surgery

No more shots please!

Yesterday was Adrianna's 2 month check up and she is doing great. She is now 12 1/2 pounds ( 1/2 a pound away from double her birth weight) and 21.6 inches long. She is growing well, but for now she is much shorter than her big sister was. Her weight is in the 75th percentile, but her height is only in the 25th, where as Abby was 95 plus for both. She is so cute though because she has the smallest little feet....I love little baby feet. It is so fun to see the differences emerging.

She also had to get three shots in her chubby little legs. I know they are important, but I hate when they have to get them. They also gave her some oral vaccine for the Rotovirus and she didn't like the taste of that- she threw up when we were in the waiting room afterwards, but the nurses said that it wouldn't affect the immunization. While I was getting her shots Quintin went to pickup Abby from school and then brought her in to get her second flu shot. She was scared and started crying before she even got the shot! Afterward she got a ton of stickers, and everyone knows stickers make everything better!! She used to be okay with shots, but since she had to have blood drawn for the lead testing last year she has become much more anxious. She was precious though because when I told her Adrianna had to get some shots too she was very loving to her and said that she was sorry she had to get shots and sorry that her legs hurt! She is such a great big sister!!

My commute

Well, I started riding my bike to work this week. Quintin took it to a bike shop on Monday and got it all ready and tuned up for me. Riding to work is really nice. We have had some nice weather lately and that helps. Riding home is another story. For one, it is a lot more difficult because I have to ride back up all the little hills I come down on in the morning. Yesterday afternoon it was quite windy, and of course I had to ride right into the wind to get home. It is worth it though...a little exercise and saving some money on gas never hurt anyone. Today I drove though because it is Daddy Day at Abby's school, so I am going to go home this morning and stay with Adrianna while they have fun at school!
